Open all windows and doors and set your intention for the clense, move around the house working from the furtherest end of the home and make your way into each room, corners etc. As you are going into each room just do what comes naturally and with your own intuition, there is no wrong way to smudge as long as your intentions are set. Always remember to say thank you and to extinguish your smudge stick and wait for it to cool down before storing away. You can smudge whenever you feel like it, there is no rule of thumb.
